The Closure of the Eglinton and Uptown Theatres "The Last Straw"
December 12, 2001 -- This week, Famous Players has announced it is closing the Eglinton, the Uptown and the Backstage theatres. This has directly lead the the crushing of my dreams, the tearing of my still beating heart from my chest, and the stomping of said heart upon the ground until it beats no more... oh yes, and the end of this perfectly wonderful site known as Cinemaguide Toronto/Toronto Movie Theatres Rated and Reviewed. In short, this disillusioned young man no longer sees the point in running a page devoted to the best theatres in Toronto, when those theatres are now closed. I refuse to pay $12.50 to see a movie in a piece of shit like Silver City when Famous Players can't even operate something as beloved as the Eglinton.
Famous Players, you suck some major ass and I hope all you corporate bastards drown in your collective money pits. Does your wealth really make you happy? Is there something missing from your miserable existences? Yes there is, isn't there. It is a little something called humanity. You are terrible, ugly people and I hope you realize this every time you look in the mirror at your terrible ugly faces.*
*(In the case of John Bailey [aka Chairman and CEO of Famous Players] your terrible ugly glasses)
This site is now closed.
There are currently petitions circulating in order to try and save both the Eglinton and the Uptown. If you are feeling helpless, frustrated, and alone, then you'd best be a-signin'.
The Eglinton closed April 1st 2002, the Uptown in Sept 2003.
Famous Players will continue to operate its shitty overpriced theatres until every last cent has been drained from your pocket.
Goodnight.
